Ron Chapdelaine Honored as Life Member of IAABO |
Ron “Chappy” Chapdelaine was honored as a Life Member of IAABO at the spring meeting held in Gettysburg from April 15-18th. This is the highest honor that IAABO presents to its members as it recognizes the tremendous contributions these individuals have made to their local board, to their state board, to IAABO and to the welfare of the game of basketball. Chappy is a 40-year member of IAABO, and started his officiating career as a college student while at St. Francis College in Maine. He has served Board 26 over the past 12 years as its Secretary/Treasurer, and previously held the position as Board president in the mid-eighties. Chappy is a past-president of Board 15, which is the Massachusetts State Board. In addition, Chappy has served as the Assistant Chair for the IAABO Board Relations and Policy Committee, to which he was re-elected while in Gettysburg. Tom Lopes, Excusive Director of IAABO, presented Chappy with an IAABO ring and a beautiful plaque commemorating his induction as a Life Member. Chappy’s family was on hand at the awards luncheon to share this honor; his wife Darlene, son Jeff and twin daughters Michelle and Monique. We are very proud of Chappy, and please take the time to congratulate him for receiving this great honor that is so well deserved. It is the consistent dedication and commitment of people like Chappy that keeps Board 26 and IAABO the strong organizations that they are. |

A Letter from Courtney Butcher's Family |
Dear Tony and Board 26 referees, We wish to thank you for your generous donation of time and skill towards our Third Courts for Courtney fundraiser. Due to your generosity and the generosity of many others like you, it was a huge success! On November 28, 2009, 86 teams participated in the daylong event. It was a fun and competitive 3 on 3 basketball tournament. As we hoped for, Courts for Courtney was once again a celebration of Courtney’s life which brought her friends, family and community together. Due to the numerous donations and contributions, such as yours, we were able to raise a significant amount of money for the Courtney Butcher Memorial Scholarship Fund. So far we have given out 5 scholarships in Courtney’s memory and plan on giving out 5 more this year. These $1,000 scholarships help to provide financial assistance to graduating seniors who plan on pursuing a post secondary education. Thank you for helping us to keep Courtney’s memory alive. We hope you will consider us again next for year’s event, which will be held on November 27, 2010. Sincerely, Courtney’s family Kathleen, John, Alexandra & Brett |
