Last year, the Officials vs. Cancer campaign raised over $180,000 to assist in the fight against cancer. We need you to make the call again this season… All we ask is that you make a donation to this cause prior to January 15th. The suggested amount is one game fee; think about it…32 minutes running on a basketball court and you can make a difference in the lives of adults and children who struggle with this insidious disease 24 hours a day - seven days a week…many of whom wish they could run for 5 minutes. The game fee would be greatly appreciated, but we understand the economic times may make this a bit uncomfortable. If that is the case, can we at least count on $50 from Varsity officials and $25 from all others? It’s a small amount for an important cause. It’s an easy call. We all know someone – either a family member or a friend – who is battling this disease, or worse, has succumbed to it. If for no other reason, make a donation in their honor and bring them on the court with you each time you blow that pink/white/yellow whistle. On our own board currently our fellow official Phil Samko courageously fights the battle daily. The Officials vs. Cancer Week is January 23 – 29 2012. Wear your whistles proudly that week, and throughout the season if you’d like. Certainly raising money for this cause is the goal, but we’d also like to see a high level of board participation. It would be great to say, ” Board 26 had 100% participation”. Now, wouldn’t that make you as proud as if you actually figured out the correctable error rule in a game?! All the money donated from the IAABO boards stay within their own state, so all money raised by the 13 Massachusetts boards will stay in Massachusetts, and Connecticut money stays in Connecticut, and so on… Please make your checks out to the American Cancer Society along with a note indicating color preference, and mail to: Ron Parker / Board 26 52 Old Salisbury Street Holden, MA 01520-1411 Don’t blow the call…donate today.
